Hermit Island

Hermit Island sits at the tip of a slender Maine peninsula where the Kennebec River and the open Atlantic meet, and it has the quality of somewhere you can only reach if you mean to. This original 16 × 20” acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas captures that sense of deliberate remoteness — the dark treeline against open water, the particular blue of a Maine harbor in the flat light of mid-morning. Painted in Molly Frantzen’s Maine studio, the palette is restrained and specific: not a postcard version of Maine, but the actual one.
