Lemons was a citrus still life that proved how much life a painter can pull from a simple subject — painted with the direct confidence of an artist who knows that color and light are the actual story. Molly Frantzen worked through the composition in her Maine studio, building vivid, saturated yellows against the cooler tones of the surface beneath, with the layered brushwork that gives her still life work its texture and physical presence.
