Summer’s Here

Summer’s Here was a food-inspired coastal still life — Maine oysters on the half shell alongside sliced citrus, painted with the loose, sun-warmed confidence Molly Frantzen brings to her still life work. Composed in her Maine studio at the peak of the season, the piece balanced the cool silver-grey of freshly shucked shells against the vivid, acidic warmth of sliced lemon and orange, in a palette that felt unmistakably like a long Maine afternoon. The brushwork was deliberately gestural — descriptive enough to read as food, free enough to read as painting.
